1947/2017: 70 YEARS OF EXPERTISE…

T

The story began in 1947, when Jean Allemand, a boat-builder, began constructing wooden boats in a modest workshop on the banks of the Hérault River, beside the Mediterranean Sea.

As a passionate and pioneering self-teacher, he became interested in resin boats in the 1960s. In 1965 he took on a significant challenge in constructing the first composite trawler in Europe, 16 metres long and upending the tradition of building wooden boats.

Combining technological innovation and a family-run business, Jean ALLEMAND emphasises experimental research and bespoke construction to meet as closely as possible the demands of sea-going professionals, from the drawing-board to construction. More than 1,000 craft from 5 to 40 metres long for fishing, pleasure and professional use pass through our  500m2 premises.

His unquenched curiosity would lead him to study and construct ‘Phaeton’, 1, 2 and 3, boat-planes and keelboats made of kevlar-graphite-epoxy, the sum of all his experience.

hus, over the years, he passed on to his children his work ethic, the value of a job well done which distinguishes the craftsman, with respect and attentiveness to those who passionately live out their sea-faring.

Today, building the most trusted fishing boats has given way to servicing boats. Repairs, re-fits in our hangar, maintenance and upkeep are still undertaken with the reliability which has made us a reputable shipyard.

The link from the Adge round-lock with the famed Canal du Midi, enables passage between the Mediterranean and the Ocean, and allows us equally to accommodate a number of steel or resin river boats, for their maintenance or equipment.

A shop is at your disposal for your fittings and raw materials. We have great pleasure in sharing with you our experience as boat-builders to advise you on maintenance or transforming your boat.

The shipyard receives the river boats via the link with the canal du midi.
